Speed absolutely does matter. Everyone here should remember a time where a website took so long to load, you just pressed the back button and went away. In the long term that is valuable members/customers that you could be losing. It is hard to tell if googles service is reliable. The google servers and network connections inpact the result, but our internet connection may affect it too if any of us were to ping our sites.
